Lumbar Laminectomy, Fusion & Postoperative Hemorrhage
A middle-aged woman underwent a spinal fusion surgery with instrumentation (i.e. a surgical plate was used). Unknown to the patient, the surgeon had improperly placed the metal plate on the spine dangerously close to her aorta—so close that the wall of the pulsatile aorta slowly eroded over time by rubbing against the metal plate, eventually resulting in her death from massive blood loss. Mark Clore reached a successful and confidential settlement on behalf of the woman’s husband and children.
