Retail Pharmacy Blood Thinner Prescription Overdose
A middle-aged man with a heart condition known as atrial-fibrillation required ongoing blood thinners to prevent clotting. The retail pharmacy where he purchased the blood thinner (Warfarin) that his doctor routinely prescribed mis-filled the strength of the regular prescription, resulting in him receiving tablets that had about 2.5 times more Warfarin in them than the doctor had ordered. After taking the pills for days-weeks, the man developed an excessively high bleeding rate, and this resulted in brain bleeding and injury before the bleeding rate could be corrected. Mark Clore was able to achieve a confidential settlement on the man’s behalf.
