Failure to Timely Diagnose & Treat Stroke with tPA
A middle-aged man was seen in hospital emergency department (ED) shortly after he developed numbness on the one side of his body, including an inability to use his arm. He was discharged with pain medication and sent home with no attempt to detect a potential stroke. The next day he reported to a different hospital ED with the same types of problems, where he was promptly given a brain CT and was diagnosed with an ischemic brain stroke. By this time, of course, it was far too late for him to receive the clot-busting drug, tPA, and he experienced significant and permanent brain injury and paralysis as a result. It was alleged that the condition producing his one-sided body numbness and weakness was a stroke to begin with, which was not timely invesitgated or detected. The case was confidentially settled in the man’s favor by Clore Law Group, LLC.
