Failure to Order Blood Thinner for High-Risk Knee Surgery Patient

A middle-age hospital maintenance worker suffered a severe knee injury when a heavy laundry cart overturned on him. He also had risk factors that made him at high risk for blood clots or deep vein thromboses (DVT) and went an orthopedic surgeon in to repair the knee damage. The man developed DVT in his affected knee or leg either before or after the surgery, and a little over a month after the operation he suffered PE, resulting in his death. It was alleged that the orthopedic surgeon should have prescribed or order anticoagulation (blood thinner) drugs for the man, before and/or following the surgery. Mark Clore and co-counsel successfully reached and confidential settlement for the man's family as a result.
