The news is abuzz with the story of Bruce Jenner being hit with a lawsuit following his February car accident. A Charleston wrongful death case couldn't possibly be as far out there as this one- with mounting coverage of his behavior prior to the collision, footage of the crash, and paparazzi photos emerging. What Caused the Fatal Collision? According to the New York Daily News, Bruce Jenner said he was being chased by the paparazzi on February 7, 2015 and he drove down the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. Initial reports have looked into whether he may have been intoxicated or texting as well, although he appears to have been cleared on both accounts. However, the L.A. County Sherriff's Department has stated that paparazzi did not play a role in the fatal collision, despite that photographers captured images before, during and after the crash, so at this point it's unclear what may have distracted Jenner. What Happened During the Crash? Reports indicate that a Prius had slowed or come to a total stop on the highway, and that a Lexus, the car in front of Jenner's, managed to stop without colliding into it. However, Jenner failed to stop in time. His vehicle hit the Lexus first, sending it into oncoming traffic, and then continued on to collide with the Prius as well. Unfortunately, the Lexus was hit by a fourth vehicle, and the driver of the Lexus died at the scene. What Charges Will Jenner Face? Experts at People Magazine reported that Jenner won't face any criminal charges, and therefore will not serve jail time. Presently, he does not appear to have been engaging in any risky behavior, such as speeding, texting, or drinking. There is a chance he may face fines and other penalties once the investigation draws to a close over the coming months. However, the step-children on the driver of the Lexus have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Jenner and 50 other unnamed entities, alleging negligence and recklessness. No dollar amount was specified in the civil case, though the court documents note that they are seeking, general damages, special damages, legal fees, prejudgment interest, and any other reparations the court feels is just and proper. Experts say this could quickly become a multi-million-dollar lawsuit, for which Jenner may be responsible to pay out of pocket. Can the Family of the Decedent Win the Case? Everyone who operates a vehicle has a responsibility to follow at a safe distance, regardless of speed. Obviously, Jenner would not have collided with the two vehicles if he had allowed enough space between his vehicles and those ahead of his. Because of this, he may be held responsible, even if he wasn't engaging in other risky behaviors.
