North Johnson School Bus Overturns

School districts have a duty of safety when students step onto a school bus. Too often children are injured when there is a collision with another vehicle. Other times, a school bus wreck does not involve another vehicle. It should be stated that the article appearing on the News and Observer did not stipulate that any blame has been assigned to this incident, but it does remind us of the great responsibility of all those involved in bus transportation due to the serious injuries expected in a bus accident. According to the News and Observer's website: Several North Johnston High School students were taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after their school bus overturned. The accident happened on Oliver Road, south of Kenly near the Wayne County line, according to Johnston County schools spokeswoman Terri Sessoms. Sessoms said no major injuries were reported, but "three to five" students were taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro as a precaution.

School Bus Accident Liability

American school buses provide an estimated 10 billion student trips every year. Every school day, over 480,000 school buses transport 26 million children to and from schools and school-related activities; over half of the country's student population is transported by school bus. School buses are leased or purchased by school districts, while other school districts use school bus contractors to transport students. Approximately 40% of school districts use contractors to handle student transportation. As you can see, if your child is injured in a school bus accident, determining who is liable can be confusing. Consult an experienced injury lawyer to better understand what responsibility the school district and the contracts each hold.
