Fatal Rollover Car Accident

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WIS) - One person was killed in an accident Monday evening and a driver is under arrest for driving under the influence, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Troopers said 29-year-old Wayne Mitchell was driving a 2011 Nissan with two passengers around 6:30 p.m. when he collided with another car on US 178 near Bowman. After the two cars collided, Mitchell's Nissan rolled several times. 38-year-old Al Lucas, a passenger in the Nissan, was killed as a result of injuries sustained during the crash, according to the Orangeburg County Coroner's Office. Troopers said Lucas was wearing a seatbelt. A second passenger was not injured. The Highway Patrol isn't saying what caused the accident, but they say both cars were heading west on US 178. Mitchell was taken to the Orangeburg-Calhoun Regional Detention Center on driving under the influence and driving under suspension charges. Troopers said it is not clear if Mitchell was to blame for causing the accident. The driver of the second car was taken to the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg for his injuries.
